Although Men Are Always Allowed to Cry,
‘Curry & Chili’ Is a Safe Space to Cry When You Get a Currywurst
From a distance, Curry & Chili doesn’t look like much. The Imbiss is sandwiched between the two lanes of Osloer Straße right next to the Prinzenallee tram station. But it is well frequented.
This is largely due to the specialty that is the chili sauce on the currywurst. However, it comes with a challenge.
If you can complete all ten steps from mildest to hottest chili sauce within six months, you’ll have your portrait on the wall of the Imbiss. And almost 1,000 people have already done it – probably with tears rolling down their cheeks.
Because you have to eat up and you have to show that you’ve scraped your sausage tray for the hot sauce for the grill master. Otherwise you won’t get your stamp on the card that qualifies you for the next step and finally your portrait on the wall.
In addition to currywurst, you can also buy candy with chili and chili chips to take home. You can also buy a bottle of each of the ten different chili sauces so you can train yourself from home.
My 9yo voluntarily took the challenge and tried step 2 on the sausage and step 1 on the fries. It wasn’t me who tormented her, I have to say.
She stubbornly fought her way through most of the meal, but eventually gave up due to nausea and stomach cramps.
It is possible to enjoy a currywurst without chili, but the challenge is by no means child-friendly.
Or adult-friendly.
Choose a chili hotness from the bottom up, cancel everything for the rest of the day and go straight home afterwards. You’ll need to relax your stomach after a meal at Curry & Chili.
