Between 1940 and 1942 three flak towers were built in Berlin. They formed a triangle around the center of Berlin with one tower in the west, one in the east and one in the north. Here is where you can find them today.

The one in the north is the easiest to find.

The flak tower was erected in Volkspark Humboldthain and as it was only partially blown up after the war, you can visit it today.

Both the flak tower and the command tower were only partially covered after the blasts, which is why parts of both bunkers are still visible in the park.

On the map you will find the visible part of the flak tower in the top left corner. The associated rubble mountain is also called Humboldt-Höhe. The command tower is hidden in the rubble mountain called Gustav-Meyer-Höhe on the map.

The one in the east is a little harder to find.

The flak tower was located in Volkspark Friedrichshain and was completely destroyed after the war. So too was the associated command tower.

Both bunkers were buried under a rubble mountain, but a small piece of the flak tower is visible today.

The two rubble mountains were named after the bunkers. Big Bunker Mountain (Großer Bunkerberg), which covers the flak tower, and Little Bunker Mountain (Kleiner Bunkerberg), which covers the command tower.

The one in the west is the hardest to find.

The flak tower was built in the Zoo in Charlottenburg, and the command tower stood in the neighboring Tiergarten.

After the war both bunkers were blown up, and the flak tower was completely dismantled. The rubble was moved to the Grunewald forest and is now part of the Teufelsberg rubble mountain.

The command tower was covered with rubble, and a canal was dug around it, so today it sits on an inaccessible island with water all around it.

To find the two locations today, you’ll need to get creative with an aerial view of the two bunkers.

As the area has changed since then, you’ll need a modern map in the same aspect ratio as the aerial photo to find the location of the two bunkers.

As mentioned, the flak tower in the Zoo is completely gone.

The remains of command tower is hidden, but you can see the island across the water from the path along the Landwehr Kanal. It’s completely overgrown with trees and it’s clear that it’s a hill.

And now you also know that the hill is a rubble mountain that hides the remains of the command tower.
