Frauen in Widerstand

Women also took part in the resistance against the Nazi regime in Germany. This exhibition is the result of five years of research on women in the resistance against National Socialism.

Women’s resistance to the National Socialist regime was diverse, extremely dangerous and courageous. However, after the end of the Second World War in 1945, it received little or no public recognition.

Only decades later did the German Bundestag explicitly honor “the courage and achievements of women in the resistance against National Socialism” for this reason.

In 2019, the legislators granted funding to a project of the German Resistance Memorial Center Foundation for further research and an exhibition on the subject.

This exhibition is the result.

The exhibition focuses on 32 women. A media station provides access to even more biographies with insights through photos, documents and explanatory texts.

Portraits on the walls also commemorate the more than 250 women who took advantage of all the opportunities that still existed for humanity and political action under the dictatorship.

At the same time, the women’s biographies clearly show how harshly the Nazi regime dealt with resistance fighters.

The German Resistance Memorial Center (Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand) is behind the exhibition and it’s on display until November 3rd, 2024.
