In every country’s history, there are events that change the future. This is also true of Germany, and coincidentally, many of these events took place on November 9.
Some of these events changed Germany for the worse, others for the better. Let’s start with an event that falls somewhere in between. We have to go all the way back to the 19th century.
November 9, 1848: The execution of Robert Blum
Robert Blum was a member of the National Assembly of the German Confederation. He was also an writer and publisher. And a democrat, not least.
As a member of the National Assembly, he loudly criticized the rising anti-Semitism in Prussia. He also campaigned for gender equality and opposed the authoritarian rule in the Prussian states.
