There is just as much history underground as above ground in Berlin. Berliner Unterwelten shows you the history down there, where the sun never shines

Berliner Unterwelten is a non-profit dedicated to researching and documenting Berlin’s underground. They also offer guided tours through the historic underground, which the organization has preserved and protected.

The most popular tour with Berliner Unterwelten is called Dark Worlds, where you are taken through a shelter from World War II. The guide tells you about what it was like to be a Berliner during the bombing of Berlin.

On the same tour, you will also learn about the other historical underground dating back to the 19th century, when the city’s industry grew and turned Berlin into a modern metropolis.

Berliner Unterwelten’s tours focus on World War II and the Cold War.

On many of the tours, you will be taken through bunkers from World War II, including the flak tower in Humboldthain and the Fichte Bunker, as well as fallout shelters from the Cold War.

Another popular tour is about how East Berliners used tunnels to escape under the Berlin Wall into West Berlin.

Tours are offered in many languages, including German, English, Spanish, and French.

The different tours and the program are available on the Berliner Unterwelten website one month in advance, where you can also book tickets.

Please note that some tours have age restrictions and require special footwear to participate. The tours also have different meeting points, so check in advance to avoid being late.
