The Disgusting Food Museum challenges our taste buds in a world where we might need to eat unfamiliar food. Foods we usually find disgusting
We don’t usually think about the fact that the food we each find delicious is considered disgusting by other people. Culture and traditions help determine our eating habits. But what happens when climate change, war, or another major event prevents us from enjoying the delicious food we are accustomed to?
Then we’ll have to eat the disgusting food that the others enjoy with relish.
The Disgusting Food Museum presents this food to us, and you will be surprised by what it is.
For those of us in the Western world, dried beetles or soup made from tarantulas are not exactly the delicacies we crave. You will, of course, be presented with this food at the Disgusting Food Museum. But try looking inward for once.

You will also be presented with the snacks you know if you are American. Poptarts and Twinkies with artificial strawberry flavor and sweeteners are not something I, as a European, find delicious. Quite the contrary, in fact.
But I’m not going to pretend to be clever. Salt licorice is also on display at the museum, and it’s something that most people can’t stand the taste of. But I’m from Scandinavia, and salt licorice is my favorite candy. The saltier, the better.

The point of it all is to break down prejudices about other people’s food and eating habits, because there may come a day when we have to eat their food.
Climate change is altering our ability to grow the crops we live on and feed our livestock. Despots are also changing our world order at the moment, and who knows if we will have access to the same food we eat today in ten years’ time?
We need to change with the world. Even though the Disgusting Food Museum is entertainment, it may start a conversation about how we can adapt our dinner tables and lunchboxes for the future.
